This description is provided by Olive Thexton of Fylde Branch.
Burials initially gave the name and parish, perhaps age, and an indication of husband/wife. With pre-printed registers coming into use, gradually extra information such as date of death, and/or address was added. All registers contain (against a very few entries) marginal notes, sometimes of correction, sometimes of comment. The most important use of parish and church/chapel registers is to supply deficiencies in national civil registration, whether of omission [for births] or errors in transcription and indexing .
