DNB: Dictionary of National Biography.

The standard British biographical dictionary with detailed biographies of some 40,000 British notables. The current edition runs to 32 volumes published from 1885 to 1990.

Available in printed form and on CD-ROM. This is under-going a massive revision - due for publication 2002-2004.
